What causes insomnia?

Insomnia is a common sleep disorder that can make it hard to fall asleep, hard to stay asleep or cause you to wake up too early and not be able to get back to sleep. Do you know what causes insomnia? At some point, many adults would experience some form of short-term (acute) insomnia, which lasts for days or weeks.

However, some people have long-term (chronic) insomnia that lasts for more than a month. There are many factors that can affect your quality of sleep and why you may experience insomnia. Stress, a disrupted circadian rhythm, poor sleep habits, or eating too much late in the evening are a few examples that can cause insomnia.
